TOWARD INCLUSION
Funded by the Victoria Foundation, the Cowichan Valley FAS Action Team Society's Toward Inclusion Program features two complimentary projects supporting youth and young adults living with FASD, caregivers and community members to develop local strategies aimed at reducing the incidence of FASD and the secondary disabilities experienced by those living with FASD.
Toward Inclusion has two streams:
- Leaders in FASD Prevention - brings young people with FASD together with other youth (ages 15-24) to create and deliver FASD education for students and community members.
- Inclusive Communities - brings young adults with FASD (ages 19-29) together with community organizations to conduct Inclusion Walk Abouts - a simple tool promoting FASD-friendly people and places.
Toward Inclusion Program Goals:
- Reduce the incidence of FASD
- Improve the quality of life for people with FASD
The Toward Inclusion Program’s two-pronged approach - prevention and intervention - recognizes youth and young adults living with FASD can be supported through meaningful opportunities to contribute to community FASD awareness, education, intervention, and prevention initiatives.
Young people living with FASD and their caregivers and families work as part of a supported team, building community FASD strategies together, while at the same time learning to cope with the primary and secondary disabilities associated with FASD on a personal level.
