Case Management of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
The Lethbridge Community Justice Project (LCJP) is a partnership of service providers created to increase the awareness of FASD across many disciplines. In its’ three years of operation, LCJP has been 80% successful in its diverting youth with an FAS diagnosis from the criminal justice system into specially designed alternate programs. The purpose of the project is to influence change in systems such as education, corrections, social services etc through mentorship, education and training about FASD.
The founders of LCJP, a social worker, police officer and crown counsel, will demonstrate how the this project impacted their community and how we also can have an opportunity to affect change in our communities on Vancouver Island. This workshop will be of special interest to educators, police, crown counsel and trial lawyers, caregivers and other community professionals who share concern about FASD and how it affects Society as a whole.
The project brochure lists the outline of the sessions, as well as a registration form. Sessions will be held in Victoria and Nanaimo. If you are interested in attending, please contact:

Award and Grant Presentation
Monday, July 19, 2004 was a very special evening for the Cowichan Valley FAS Action Team Society.
At the City of Duncan Council meeting, Mr. Graham Bruce, Cowichan-Ladysmith MLA presented us with the Solicitor General’s Regional Awareness and Promotion Award for Vancouver Island; as well as a grant of $185,00 from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
This prestigious award recognizes the Society’s outstanding contribution to both crime prevention and community safety.
